Trump is considering sanctions against Saudi, but arms deal safe

President Trump says that Saudi Arabia will face a heavy penalty if it turns out that journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in the Saudi consulate in Turkey. He stated it in the 60 Minutes interview program of CBS.

Turkey suspects that Khashoggi was tortured in the consulate in Istanbul and cut into pieces by a Saudi death squad. Trump says that the research is being performing very hard and he supposes that the truth will come to light in “not too long a time”.

The Saudi crown prince Bin Salman has emphatically denied any involvement in the disappearance of the journalist earlier this week.

Trump finds it difficult to pinpoint which sanctions he has in mind for Saudi Arabia. He will not fumble anyway at the arms deal that he closed last year with the country, and where America earns hundreds of billions of dollars.

“I do not want to damage employment There are other ways to punish a country.”

Trump thinks that there is a lot at stake.

“Probably that is because Khashoggi is a journalist, which is horrible, even if it is surprising to hear that from me.”

Trump previously voiced strong criticism of the press in America and called some journalists and media outlets “the enemies of the people”.
